Human before label
A diagnosis may describe something important. It does not contain the entirety of a person, their history or what becomes possible next.
Psychotherapy
More than twenty years of psychotherapy—direct, informal and serious about what helps people move.
The approach
You need somewhere sufficiently honest to examine what is happening, what it means and what may be keeping it alive.
Ian’s work avoids performance, jargon and dependency. The relationship is human; the enquiry is rigorous. Where trauma is central, more than thirteen years of EMDR experience can form part of the work when appropriate.
A diagnosis may describe something important. It does not contain the entirety of a person, their history or what becomes possible next.
The work is conversational, serious and direct. Patients often describe appointments as being like talking to an old friend.
The purpose is not to make therapy indispensable. It is to strengthen judgement, authority and the capacity to move without it.
The intention
“Good therapy should return you to your own life—not make you better at attending therapy.”
The work aims towards movement, clearer conclusions and greater psychological independence.
In their words
“From the first session Ian made me feel comfortable and able to express myself without judgement.”
“Within five minutes of talking with Ian my anxiety calmed down and we got along like old friends.”Read more patient perspectives
